Boyne went into this game a bit aprehensive after suffering a heavy defeat here 3 weeks ago. In the early exchanges Navan controlled most of the possession. And it took some brave defending from Boyne to keep them at bay. After a number of attempts to break through Navan had to settle a penalty and a three point lead.
From a turnover ball by Ruairi Hickey Boyne took charge of the game. From the turnover Shane Dowling put a kick through and with Joe Sweeney putting pressure the Navan full back they lost possession. Sweeny picked up and passed for fellow back row Shane Storey to go over for the try. Dowling converted to make it 7-3 to Boyne. Boyne didn't hold the lead for long with missed tackles from Boyne,Navan getting in for a try to take an 8-7 lead.
Boyne responded well and frustrated Navan with fantastic defending by scrum half Sean O'Brien and centre Cormac Brodigan. Boyne made their way into the Navan half with great ball carrying by Shane Rooney and Connor Rothwell. From there the backs moved the ball out wide to Adam Byrne who passed inside to Ciaran Clinton and he used his pace to get in in the corner for Boyne to take Boyne to half-time with a 4 point lead.
Boyne held the lead for the first 20mins of the 2nd half,and should have been further in front but missed two penalties. Navan came into the game but with great scrummaging from the front row of Gerry Onianwa,Ruairi Hickey and Shane Kirwan Boyne received a penalty and a great kick from Shane Dowling brought them into the Navan half and after some great carrying from Jack Woods O'Brien fed Dowling who beat 3 defenders to go in under the posts,and he converted to leave it 19-8. Boyne made hard work of the last 5 minutes. Navan put pressure on but with great defending again from backs Ethan Bradley and Mark Mc Phillips Boyne held out for the win.
