Boyne U13s tour to Luxembourg 2010

The Boyne U13s rounded off a successful season with a tour to Luxembourg Rugby Club’s under 13 tournament. Boyne had just enough players to make up two teams, the Warriors captained by Hugh Egleston and the Bulls captained by Michael Briscoe. Both teams had a rocky start to the tournament probably not helped by travel the previous day and sleep deprivation through unsanctioned social activity in the youth hostel the night before. The youth hostel on the first night was like a rural training camp and was situated in Hollenfels in the lower reaches of the Ardennes.

Dundalk 10 Boyne 13's 32

Boyne U13s turned on the style yesterday in a stirring victory over Dundalk running in six tries to win 32 10 to reach the semi final of the cup. Foundation for the victory was laid by the pack who must have given away at least 3 kilos per man to their Dundalk rivals. The tight five completely out scrummaged their heavier opponents winning two strikes against the head with good body position and rapid leg pumping. Robert Morgan and Liam Strachan played the entire game and never looked in difficulty.

The 2009/2010 Leinster Youth Cup draws were made on Tuesday 26th January and are after pitting Boyne against local neigbours Dundalk, Navan & Skerries in the Under 19's, Under 15's and Under 14's respectively. The Under 17's travel away to Birr, with a 2nd round tie against Navan awaiting the winner and the Under 13's must travel to North Kildare. The complete draws for each team are attached.
The Under 19's and Under 17's start their campaign on February 13th, with the Under 15's and Under 13's starting the following week, February 20th. Due to the small number of clubs playing at Under 14's that competition does not start until March 20th.

U-13 Leinster League Quarter Final

Boyne Under 13's went down to a heavy defeat by an accomplished Wexford Wanderers side in Bryanstown on Saturday 16th January.

Boyne 13's 5 Clontarf 39

Boyne put in a gutsy performance today but went down 39 5 to a huge Clontarf outfit. By common consent this was the biggest and best team Boyne have faced all year. A welcome return today from injury was Cormac Jones who scored Boyne's only try. Tadhg Kavanagh was tigerish in the loose and good running by the backs was unfortunate not to have yielded more tries.

Winter Rugby Camp

A Winter Rugby camp will be held in the first week in January, on Monday 4th, Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th from 10am to 12pm in Shamrock Lodge. The sessions are open to all registered under 13's, under 14's and under 15's. An SMS will be sent out shortly to notify all eligible players and further details will be posted to the website.

Boyne U-13's 0 Terenure 10

A spirited Boyne side went down to Terenure 2 unconverted tries to nil at Drogheda Grammar School today. The team was very unlucky not to have pegged Terenure back in the last ten minutes when considerable pressure did not yield a try. Aggressive running from Cillian McDonald was often the catalyst for Boyne's attacks in the second half. It was noticeable that Boyne's defence has become meaner since the beginning of the season. Next week Boyne face Clontarf away in another Metro fixture.

Navan 41 Boyne U-13's 0

Boyne U13s played Navan this week and unfortunately went down 41 to no score. However this was a very accomplished Navan side and Boyne never gave up. Boyne were desperately unlucky not to score at least two tries during the match against a mean Navan defense. There was some consolation for the lads in green and black however in that they came a creditable second in the North East League. Navan were great hosts and put on a great spread afterwards which was much appreciated by the cold and hungry teams and supporters.
