Boyne 17's travelled to Navan to take on Barnhall in the Leinster 17's plate. Taking to the pitch straight after Boyne 19's had defeated North Kildare in the 19's Cup Semi-final Boyne had an unlucky start when the referree penalised them for hands in the ruck, in what looked like a very harsh decision. Penalties were then swapped to leave the score at 6 - 3 to Barnhall. Cormac Brodigan made a super break and offloaded to Shane Dowling to touch down which Richard Keane converted.
Birr 11 , Boyne U17s 8.
It was a disappointing day for the U17a's in Birr on Saturday. The team went down in great hope for a good match and victory, but instead Boyne came away defeated. Birr defended heroically for most of the second half as Boyne tried everything to win the match, but ultimately time was against them.
The draws for the Schools-Youth cups, which are open to club teams consisting of both club and schools players was made this week. Boyne entered teams in the U-13, U-14, U-15, U-16 and U-17 competitions. The draws are attached.
Boyne 17 “B”s travelled to Ashbourne on Saturday to compete in their second competitive North East game since the new year.
Boyne dominated play in the early part of the first half but it fifteen minutes before their efforts were rewarded with a forward drive which saw Jerry Onianwa place the ball over the line and Thomas O’Sullivan convert.
Ashbourne responded just before the half time break when their lock forward broke away to score an excellent individual try breaking three Boyne tackles in the process.
The 2009/2010 Leinster Youth Cup draws were made on Tuesday 26th January and are after pitting Boyne against local neigbours Dundalk, Navan & Skerries in the Under 19's, Under 15's and Under 14's respectively. The Under 17's travel away to Birr, with a 2nd round tie against Navan awaiting the winner and the Under 13's must travel to North Kildare. The complete draws for each team are attached.
The Under 19's and Under 17's start their campaign on February 13th, with the Under 15's and Under 13's starting the following week, February 20th. Due to the small number of clubs playing at Under 14's that competition does not start until March 20th.
Mixed fortune this weekend for the U-17 A's and B's. The B's played Ratoath on Saturday morning and were unlucky to loose 17 nil. They showed great effort and created at least four scoring chances but failed to take them. Clearly a sign of rustiness after no play for the last 4 weeks.
The U-17 A's also played this morning in a friendly against a very good Barnhall team, who are in to the Leinster League Semi-finals. It was an excellent win 3 nil. Although a very low score line both teams produced an excellent and exciting match. The defense on both teams proving to be too strong.
