The trophy display day was indeed something very special and is unlikely to be repeated ever again. We were honoured later on in the evening by the presence of the IRFU President, John Callaghan, who was persuaded to give a bar of the song "The Boys From The County Armagh". He is, of course, a member of Armagh RFC. Mr. Callaghan endeared himself to the Boyne members and he and his wife, Mabel, were most convivial company and mixed with the Boyne members most freely spending the night amongst them.
This night was billed as "The Night Of Nights" and it would be difficult to argue with that headline if you were in the Bettystown Court Hotel on Saturday night last at the celebration Victory Ball of local rugby club Boyne RFC. This innovative night had everything that success brings to these occasions. Obviously the organisers wanted to go beyond the success of just winning the Provincial Towns Cup for the first time, they also wanted to pay tribute to those teams who had striven so hard to achieve this distinction down through the years.
Boyne Rugby Club have certainly put together a very unique event on Sunday next the 11th of October when they will have every trophy that has been won by Ireland and Irish teams. The 6 Nations, Triple Crown, Churchill Cup all won by the Irish team and the Magners League Cup won by Munster along with the Heineken Cup won by Leinster. Among them all will be the coveted Provincial Towns Cup won by Boyne this year. The occasion will also be honoured by the attendance of Mr. John Callaghan the IRFU President and his wife.
