Naas 34 Boyne 0

Boyne broke new ground with this season's opening match against senior side Naas at Forenaughts on Saturday last. They were taking part in a match at senior level for the first time in their history. Coach McGrath is persisting with his policy of bringing the clubs younger players through and he is using these games to give them experience of first team football for these matches. Whilst the side shipped a heavy defeat against a full strength Naas side nevertheless there were signs that these young players will be a force when they finish their youth rugby with the under 19'side this season. McGrath fielded six under 19's for this match along with other newcomers such as Harry Kennedy, Conor McGann and Robert McKenna. Boyne did stay with their senior opponents for the first 30 minutes of this match and played some very exciting rugby in the process. They conceded a penalty on the 15th minute that gave a 3 point lead to Naas. There followed a 15 minute spell of frenetic football with both teams playing at a fierce pace. Boyne had the chance to take the lead with a knock on depriving centre Brian Howell when he had the line at his mercy. Naas took up the initiative from the 35th minute when they crossed for the first of their four tries. They added three more tries in the second half converting all of them as well as adding a penalty to complete their tally.
Next Saturday Boyne take on recently promoted North East neighbours, Navan, at Shamrock Lodge. Kick Off for this game is 3pm.
