U12s vs Ashbourne & Balbriggan

Boyne U12s had an early start last Sunday morning, when Ashbourne & Balbriggan made the relatively short trip to Shamrock Lodge for a 10.30am kick-off.

Again we had a very large turnout for these North East Fixtures and we made up two squads with 17 players in each squad. Thankfully both Ashbourne & Balbriggan agreed to play 12-a-side rather than the normal 10-a-side, so we had less lads standing on the side-line waiting to be rolled in and out of the matches, something that often upsets the cohesion of the team.

Well attended training sessions every Wednesday & Saturday is obviously benefiting skill levels and fitness of the lads who are improving all the time.

The smaller squads of Ashbourne & Balbriggan struggled defensively against the Boyne lads, although no one could accuse the visitors of giving up, they remained competitve to the final whistle in each of the four matches. Good sportsmanship from all of the lads who took the field was also wonderful to see, with everyone respecting their team mates, opposition and the referees.

Our support play & passing was very evident on Sunday morning, and it great to see more and more of the lads getting on the scoresheet as the weeks pass.
Our rucking is improving all of the time and as a result we are getting quicker ball to play with, so we are able to attack more space and less bodies.
Our tackling is also getting better as the weeks pass, lower body positions and more aggression in the tackle are what the the coaches are trying to encourage in the training sessions.

Big Thanks Again to all of the Mums and (Dads?) for the refreshments, for all of the kids and our visitors after the matches. All of the coaches really appreciate your help on match days.

Our next fixture is against St Mary's on Sunday 08th of December.
