Boyne U12s - Tough Test vs St Mary's

Boyne U12s played on the new all weather pitch in Shamrock Lodge last Sunday morning, when St Mary’s RFC travelled up to Drogheda for a Metro League fixture with an 11am kick-off.

The Boyne U12s showed up in good numbers yet again so we made up two equal squads with 16 players in each squad. Similar to last week St Mary’s agreed to play 12-a-side rather than the normal 10-a-side, so we had less lads standing on the side-line waiting to be rolled in and out of the matches, something that often upsets the cohesion of the team.

This was to be a much tougher test for the Boyne lads, than in recent weeks, if last year’s meeting between the sides was anything to go by. St Mary’s did not disappoint, playing some good rugby with strong tackling and a great off-loading game. All four matches were extremely tight, low scoring affairs, two of the matches actually ending in low scoring draws, with Boyne winning one match (3 – 0) and losing one match (2 – 1). Quick ruck ball was the key to scoring especially when you come up against teams that have good ability to tackle.

There were some great performances from a lot of the lads, who had to step up to the mark due to some of our key players missing this fixture. Our improvement in the tackle and at the rucks was clear for everyone to see during the matches on Sunday, something the coaches were very pleased to see, especially against good opposition.

Again good sportsmanship from all of the lads who took the field was also wonderful to see, with everyone respecting their team mates, opposition and the referees.

Big Thanks Again to all of the Mums and (Dads?) for the refreshments, for all of the kids and our visitors after the matches. All of the coaches really appreciate your help on match days.

We will be training on Wednesday in the O’Raghallaigh’s @ 8pm, but there will be NO TRAINING on Saturday morning in the Grammar School.

Our TRIP TO THE AVIVA for Leinster v Northampton is on Saturday 14th December and we will be meeting in the car park of Shamrock Lodge @ 3.30pm

Next fixture is against Old Wesley on Sunday 15th of December in Ballycorus Rd , Kiltiernan.
