North East League Final Under 13
Skerries 31 Boyne 12
Skerries enjoyed home advantage in the North East final on Monday night and came away with victory over a gallant Boyne team. Boyne has been decimated by injuries in recent weeks but despite this gave everything and made Skerries work extremely hard for their win.
There was only 2 minutes on the clock when Skerries intercepted a Boyne back line move to touch for the first score of the game. Boyne responded well and on 10 minutes touched down themselves with Eoin Cummins scoring in the corner. This was superbly converted by Euan Canniffe. Skerries then scored again with the score now sitting at 14-7 in their favour. On 17 minutes, a collapsed scrum resulted in an injury to Boyne hooker Benji McGrath. The game was stopped for over an hour until Ambulance arrived. This was precautionary and thankfully Benji has been given all clear. The game continued and the first half finished with Skerries 7 points ahead. Skerries took control of the second half and Boyne struggled to deal with their big no.8. Skerries scored 3 more tries as the game slowly slipped away from Boyne. In the closing minutes Boyne scored after some great forward play resulted in Sean Horan touching down. The final score was not a fair reflection on the match in general and it was the classic story of one team taking their chances when they got the opportunity. A great achievement to reach the final and there will be many more to enjoy for these young men.
