Forward dominance the key to success for Boyne 3rds in cup clash

Boyne faced Ardee for the third time this season at Shamrock Lodge on Sunday, but this time it was in the Anderson Cup 2nd round. Having beaten their local rivals twice in the league, Boyne were confident heading into the fixture, and their confidence was well founded as they went on to complete a hat-trick of wins for the season.
The morning snow cleared to leave excellent conditions for the 3pm Kick Off, and with the wind blowing across the pitch, neither side had an advantage.

Boyne 3rds presented with McGee Cup following unbeaten league campaign

Boyne 3rds unbeaten run in the North East Area League has earned them the clubs first honours for the season in the form of the McGee Cup. At a presentation ceremony in Shamrock Lodge on Saturday, captain Fergus Walsh accepted the cup on behalf of his team and fortified as it were by Forty's famous curry, the team proceeded to celebrate their title for the night. The cup was filled and emptied many times in the Lodge, Grennans Bar, and inevitably, McPhails before being brought home to safety by the team captain.

Strong finish secures win for Boyne 3rds in Athboy

A massive final 15 minutes helped Boyne 3rds to maintain their 100% record in the North East League on Sunday in Athboy. Despite having already claimed the league title, Boyne were aiming to secure a win over their Meath rivals in this re-scheduled game. A much changed side to the one which triumphed over Ardee the previous week took the field for this game, including a number of late call-ups. That the club was able to field a team at all was a credit to the 15 who turned out despite inclement conditions, and some international match day hangovers.

The forwards welcomed back Ian O’Reilly and Paddy McGuigan, although Derek Farrell was unavailable for selection for this game.

Boyne 3rds take the points in scrappy game at the Lodge against Swords

Boyne 3rds take the points in scrappy game at the Lodge against Swords.

Cancellations over the two previous weekends for various reasons meant that this was the first game of 2008 for Boyne 3rds, who begin the year well placed at the top of the North East League. This was to be a home fixture for Swords, however it was moved to the Lodge as the Swords pitch was unplayable.
The pitch was heavy, and not conducive to the type of open attacking game that Boyne play. This was to be a day for hard slog up front, and a few flashes of class in the backs.

Emphatic win for Boyne 3rds in local derby

The Boyne 3rds were the only team from the club in competitive action this weekend, and they travelled to Ardee to take on their local rivals on Sunday.
