Strength & Conditioning / Skills Training

Hi all,

Over the past few seasons we have been aware that youth players have increasingly been attending the gym to improve their strength and athleticism.  Gym work can be hugely beneficial to rugby players, athletes and all teenagers if done correctly and supervised by appropriate coaches.   However, if done incorrectly it can be hugely detrimental to a players development and increase the risk/frequency of injury.

With this in mind, Boyne RFC are offering an 8 week program over the summer to the Under 16's (1999 birthday) through to the Under 19's (1996) which will target Strength & Conditioning and ball skills.

The program will start On Tuesday June 24th and will run each Tuesday & Thursday for 8 weeks, finishing on Thursday 21st August.

ex Munster, Leinster & Boyne player Niall Ronan (incoming Director of Rugby) will be coaching the Strength & Conditioning module with Boyne Senior Coach Mike Walls coaching the skills module.  The focus will be on core strength, mobility, strength & agility and ball skills.

The program will develop a pathway for the under 16 through to under 19 which builds on previous years to enable the under 19 to progress seamlessly to adult rugby.

Depending on numbers we will split the group by age with sessions as follows:

        Tuesday & Thursday      10:00 - 11:45           (Session 1)

                                                    11:45 - 1:30            (Session 2)

The cost of the 8 week program is €50 (or €4 per session if preferred).

If you are interested in attending these sessions please email so we can estimate numbers and confirm the schedule.

Boyne RFC Youth Presentation

Jack Foley Presentation

At last Saturdays pre-match lunch Boyne RFC honoured their latest young prodigy who has followed in the path of many of the clubs previous youths who have gone on to representative honours. The picture shows Jack Foley receiving an award from the club Vice President, Phoebe Leonard, in honour of his inclusion on the Leinster Youths squad this season. Jack is a member of the Boyne Under 19’s team.

(Lein. League S/F) Boyne U-19's 22 - 22 NUIM Barhnall

Boyne under 19's travelled to Ashbourne to take on NUIM Barnhall in their delayed Leinster League Division I semi-final.  Conditions on the day were very windy and credit to both teams for the quality of rugby played.  A slow Boyne start allowed Ashbourne in for 2 early tries to go 12 - 0 up before Boyne started to grow into the game.  A dominant Boyne scrum gave a good platform and a Boyne try brought the score to 12 - 5 at half time.

The occasion of a lifetime was experienced by the young Boyne under 12  players, when they took to the hallowed turf of the RDS last Friday night to provide the half time entertainment during the Leinster versus Ospreys Heineken Cup game.

Boyne U-17 'B' 26 - Rathoath 10

Boyne U-17 'B' squad got thier Leinster League campaign off to a winning start against local rivals Rathoath.  A bright sunny autumn morning saw the Bryanstown pitch in excellent shape as the teams lined up.  Rathoath got off to a great start scoring a try in the first few minutes to go 5 - 0 up.  Boyne struggled to stay in the game at times, with concentration & work rate in defense not at the required levels.  Slowly however the team started to come in to the game and were rewarded with a converted try to leave the score at half time 7 - 5 to Boyne.

Under 17 'B' 24 - 10 North Meath

Boyne's Under 17's 'B' squad got their North East League campaign off to a great start with a win over North Meath. A glorious sunny autumn morning, with the club preparing for the Presidents gathering & senior matches v NUIM Barnhall saw the 17's 'B' team play on the main pitch which was in magnificent condition.
A slow start saw North Meath attack and a poor choice by Boyne full back to run the ball when outnumbered and lacking support saw the ball turned over and North Meath opened the scoring with a try.

Boyne 17's v Navan (Leinster S/F)

Boyne 17's finished the season with a tight loss to All-Ireland Champions & local rivals Navan. Following on from the loss in the Leinster League final, Navan went on to win the All-Ireland title. Boyne defeated Enniscorthy in the quarter final of the cup to again face Navan in the semi-finals.

Boyne 17's 5 - 3 Mullingar (Leinster League Semi-Final)

Boyne under 17's overcame a strong challenge to qualify for the Leinster League final by 5 points to 3. A tight game, Boyne didn't capitalise on two good breaks and defended will so that it was 0 - 0 at half time. The second half was also a tight affair with Mullingar converting a penalty to go 3 - 0 up. An unconverted try from Cathal Kavanagh wide right saw Boyne take the lead 5 - 3. Boyne defended some heavy pressure for the last few minutes to seal the win.
