Boyne U7’s completed an unbeaten season this Sat when we fielded two teams away to Dundalk and Balbriggan. In all 17 players turned out for the last game of the season and proved too strong for both Dundalk teams and Balbriggan. This U7’s team has come a long way since turning up for their first ever rugby training session last September. The primary tag rugby skills of handling and evasion were evident throughout the season with great defensive awareness coming into play in our most recent games.
Five teams participated in Sat's U7's Blitz in Armagh. Navan, Coolmine, Armagh A / B and Boyne. As none of the traveling sides were able to field more than one team the day finished ahead of schedule.
It was business as usual for Boyne despite missing a number of players due to the easter holiday break. We were able to field a team plus four subs and no matter what combination of players we had on the pitch we managed to score tries and win all of our games.
14 Boyne under 7's turned out on a sunny spring morning in Rathoath and proceeded to maintain our unbeaten record in 2010.
The final score of 7 tries to 1 showed the total dominance Boyne had throughout the match.
Twelve U7's lined out for Boyne in Ashbourne today. We competed in two teams of six against a full strength Asbourne squad. This allowed us to run two games simultaneously which was critical given the freezing weather conditions. The enthusiasm from both Boyne teams was evident from the start with great defensive work forcing turnovers that led to a rush of early try scoring opportunities.
Check out the Photo Gallery for the latest photo's of our U7's in action against Ratoath and Dundalk.
In another fantastic turn out, 18 Boyne players lined out on a mild dry morning at Drogheda Grammar school to take on a well organised Dundalk side.
Two games of eight a side tag rugby were played and all players got a chance to participate. Both sides played with a lot of enthusiasm and started to use the evasion and handling skills they are learning in training.
The sides were well matched with Boyne scoring early in the first game through an intercept by Sean Horan who went on to show Dundalk a clean pair of heels and score in the corner.
17 Boyne U7's travelled to Rathoath on this blustery but dry Sat morning to compete in their first game of the season.
Both sides gave their all in a very entertaining game of tag rugby.
There was plenty of running into open space which helped Boyne to get on the score sheet early. We went on to score five tries ( try scorers: Alan Foley & Euan Canniffe ) which gave us comfortable win on the day.
Thanks to all who made the trip and well done Boyne U7's on your first competive match!!
